Travelling to Gurugram for Rehabilitation? Plan Before You Travel

Reviewed by Dr. Anuradha Tyagi — Senior Neuro Rehabilitation Specialist, BPT, MPT · Meet the team

Every week, families travel hundreds of kilometres to Delhi NCR for medical care — from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, the Northeast and beyond. Some of those journeys end in relief. Some end in a family standing outside a centre that turned out to be wrong for their patient, having spent money and — worse — the patient’s energy on a journey that could have been avoided with one WhatsApp message.

This guide is our attempt to make sure your journey, if you take it, is the first kind.

Step one: send the reports before anything else

At Neuranta, outstation families can send the discharge summary and recent reports on WhatsApp to +91 70786 42986 before you book anything. A clinician reads them and tells you three things honestly: whether structured rehabilitation looks suitable, which care model would likely fit (inpatient, day-care or OPD), and whether travelling to Gurugram makes sense at all for your case. If the honest answer is “a centre closer to you can do what’s needed,” we say so. It costs you nothing to ask, and it can save you everything the wrong trip costs.

What to send: the hospital discharge summary · recent reports and scans (photos are fine) · the current medication list · one or two short videos, if you can safely take them, of the patient sitting, standing or walking as they currently manage — a 20-second clip often tells a therapist more than a page of text.

Step two: the video consultation

If the report review suggests a programme could help, the next step is a video consultation — the family, the patient where possible, and the clinical team on one call. This is where the real questions get answered: what the goals of a programme would be, what a therapy day would contain, how long a first block might run before its review, and what it is likely to cost. You should end the call knowing enough to decide — and feeling zero pressure to.

Step three: deciding the care model from a distance

For most outstation families the practical choice is the inpatient (residential) programme — daily structured therapy without a daily commute, nursing support, and the caregiver-training blocks built into the stay so the family member who travels with the patient goes home skilled. Day-care can suit families who will stay in Gurugram medium-term with relatives. Straight OPD rarely justifies long-distance travel, and we will tell you that plainly rather than let you discover it after arriving.

Step four: planning the journey

  • Timing: travel once the treating doctor confirms the patient is fit for the journey. For long distances, consider the train over road for medically stable patients.
  • Documents: carry originals of the discharge summary and reports, plus the medication supply for the journey and first days.
  • Accommodation for family: one family member can stay with the patient through a residential admission. For anyone else travelling with you, we will advise on current guest-house and hotel options near Sector 39 — ask when the admission is being planned.
  • Arrival: the first day at the centre is the full assessment — the video consultation informs it, but the plan is confirmed only after hands-on evaluation. The written plan and estimate follow, and you approve them before the programme starts.

What this journey should never involve

No honest centre asks an outstation family to commit money before an assessment, promises an outcome or a timeline to justify the travel, or discourages you from asking for the plan in writing. Distance makes families vulnerable to pressure; the reports-first pathway exists precisely to remove that pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Does sending reports commit us to anything?
No. You are asking for a clinical read on whether a programme here suits your family member. If the honest answer is that it does not, we say so, and that is the end of it.

How long will we need to stay in Gurugram?
It depends on the plan the assessment produces — the written plan states the first review date, and length is decided by measured progress, not a fixed package. The video consultation will give you an honest working range for planning.

Can the accompanying family member stay at the centre?
Yes. During a residential admission one family member can stay with the patient. That is deliberate rather than a courtesy — the caregiver-training blocks only work if the person who will do the caring at home is there through the programme. Tell us who is travelling when the admission is planned.

We speak Hindi more comfortably than English — is that fine?
हाँ, बिलकुल। Hindi is welcome on the phone, on WhatsApp and at the centre.

Before you book anything: send the reports. WhatsApp +91 70786 42986 — an honest read, and travel only if it is worth it.
