Neuro Physiotherapy.
Neuro physiotherapy is the retraining of movement after damage or disease of the brain, spinal cord or nerves.
Neuro physiotherapy is the retraining of movement after damage or disease of the brain, spinal cord or nerves. It uses the nervous system’s capacity to adapt — neuroplasticity — through repeated, task-specific, progressively challenging practice.
Functional problems it may address
- Weakness, spasticity or poor control after stroke, brain or spinal cord injury
- Impaired balance, transfers and walking
- Deconditioning after hospitalisation
- Movement problems in conditions such as Parkinson’s, MS and GBS
What assessment may include
Assessment maps strength, tone, balance, transfers and walking against the patient’s goals, producing a baseline that the programme — and progress reviews — are built on.
What sessions involve
Sessions centre on active, task-specific practice: movement re-education, strengthening, balance and gait work, dosed and progressed to the individual. Home exercises extend practice between sessions.
How it connects with other therapies
Works alongside occupational therapy (daily activities), speech therapy (communication and swallowing) and caregiver training within one coordinated plan.
